Uber Link Deal With NASA For VTOL "Flying Taxis" By 2020

Uber today at the Web Summit in Lisbon announced a deal agreement between NASA and the ride - hailing firm for its vision VTOL (Flying Taxis) project. Project Elevate form Uber plans on using software to mapping air traffic control system for flying taxi fleet.

The company plans on rolling out this mission by 2020. Uber head of product Jeff Holden reveled the company signed a space Act Agreement of which UberA|R service could usher one and half journey from Los Angeles to staple center under 30 minutes.

Cities joining the company effort in beta testing including Dallas-fort Worth and Dubai.

“We’ve studied this carefully and we believe it is scalable,” Holden said. “We’ve done the hard work so we can build skyports, and can get the throughput operationally to move tens of thousands flights per day per city.”

“NASA is very focused on getting UTM adoption and pressure-testing the framework and make sure it works correctly,” Holden said. “Uber is actually trying to put this new air traffic system into production.”

Dubai has also been big proponent of smart cities and VTOL (Vertical take-off and landing) from startups with the next generation of transportation. ( Hyperloop One, and lilium)
