Lyft Expand To International Market Starting With Canada
Lyft has officially announced its expansion into Toronto by the end of the year, according to the CBC.
The expansion — the company’s first outside the US — was first reported by The Information in September. Lyft currently operates in approximately 300 American cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Detroit.
In an interview with The Toronto Star, Lyft president and co-founder John Zimmer said that the company is a more ethical option compared to “our competitor.”
It’s important to give people a choice…In order to provide the best hospitality to the end customer, you need to take best care of the drivers, and that’s something we’ve done for five years,” Zimmer told the Star. “It will be reliable, it will be affordable, but it will also be an experience more focused on the hospitality service.”
That said, Lyft, too, doesn’t expect to be profitable imminently given its aggressive expansion plans, according to sources. That international expansion will also likely continue beyond Toronto
